Pepys House: A Modern Touch of History

Pepys House is a spacious, double-fronted historic home in the heart of Southwark, just steps from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and close to Borough Market, with easy access to Blackfriars and London Bridge stations. Built in 1860 on the site of the old Bear Pit — referenced in Samuel Pepys’ diaries, with some original elements still surviving beneath the property — the house blends genuine historical character with a modern interior. All four bedrooms sit on the ground floor and sleep up to eight: the master has a super-king bed and en-suite bath, the second and third bedrooms offer king beds (one en suite), and the fourth has a double bed alongside a small office space. Upstairs, a striking vaulted entertaining space with double-height ceilings and exposed original beams opens into a large living and kitchen area, furnished with two sofas, two armchairs, and rustic décor; the kitchen is fully equipped with a dining table for eight, and there’s also a dedicated cinema room with a large flat-screen TV and streaming access, plus a cozy private patio for a quiet drink or reading outside. Guests get complimentary WiFi, high-quality linen and towels, eco-friendly toiletries, and tea and coffee. Parties, stag, and hen celebrations aren’t permitted, given the residential setting, and check-in is handled in person, with guest ID verification required in advance.
