Description

Moored in the heart of Amsterdam, this classic Dutch live-aboard boat offers comfort, a real sense of adventure, and lovely views over the Amstel River — a stay you won’t find anywhere else in the city.

Outside, the highlight is the 8-seater lounge area, wrapped in a 360-degree view of a beautiful bend in the Amstel, right in Amsterdam’s historic centre. Roll-up windows let you enjoy the breeze on warm days, or stay closed for a cosy, sheltered view of life on the water when it’s cooler.

Inside, the cabin is surprisingly roomy with high ceilings, and includes a fully equipped kitchen with a four-burner stove, hot water, heating, a fridge and a dining area. There’s a separate sleeping area for two, and the dining area converts into a bed for two more guests. Classic lighting, generous storage for luggage, weather monitoring equipment and a full sound system round out the interior.

Living aboard is a bit of urban camping — there’s a private toilet, but no shower on the boat itself. There is a sink with hot water, and we’re happy to point you to nearby places where you can shower.

You barely need to leave to enjoy Amsterdam: many an afternoon has drifted by in the lounge with a glass of wine, watching the world go past. If you do fancy a wander, the view of the Zuiderkerk that Monet once painted is right across the canal, Amsterdam’s famous “crooked” houses sit directly in front of the boat, Rembrandt Square is just around the corner, and the grand Nieuwmarkt Square is a few steps further. Restaurants, museums, other boats and tulips are all close by, and public transport is right outside, with a direct connection to Amsterdam Central Station and the city’s main sights.

As this is a lovingly and carefully restored classic ship, smoking isn’t allowed on board — you’re welcome to step out onto the terrace or the street instead. Welcome to authentic Amsterdam boat life!

The houseboat isn’t luxurious—it feels like staying at a friend’s country retreat—yet we were reluctant to depart. Wanting something distinctive for our first Amsterdam nights, this vessel was ideal. While walking-distance to attractions, stepping inside brought peaceful quietness. Observing the throngs of tour boats below provided entertaining people-watching. Hotel friends were envious of the generous room we enjoyed. Though we didn’t cook, the kitchen was well-suited for bread, cheese, and wine. Perfect for those seeking an authentic experience without the typical hotel atmosphere, but still conveniently positioned.

A pleasant alternative for a brief visit, expensive yet enjoyable. The facilities impressed, furniture was cozy, access was good, and water-front living added appeal. The touristy surroundings bring nighttime activity and boat traffic, plus waterfowl like ducks, swans, and herons right outside. The landlord answered questions promptly without complaint. Having more blankets would have helped during cool nights with open windows, and the tiny balconies lacked sturdiness. Still, a wonderful escape overall.

The boat offered excellent comfort with expansive windows overlooking the waterway. Exchanging waves with passing tour vessels was delightful. Daily boat activity was entertaining, though the vessel’s motion from water disturbance resembled seismic activity—adjustment took about a day. The mattress was supportive. The busy tourist neighborhood and evening entertainment may necessitate earplugs for sensitive sleepers. Evening champagne, wine, and cheese with open doors while observing passersby and birds, followed by morning coffee and pastries with the same view, proved magical. Shopping and markets lay nearby, with convenient tram service for city exploration. The management team was attentive and helpful. The vantage point showcased some of Amsterdam’s finest scenery. Create lasting memories in this captivating destination. Note: watch for cycling hazards.

We booked three nights (a missed connection meant one fewer than planned). The management graciously offered cancellation, but we decided against it—a choice we don’t regret. Everything is within reach. Rembrandt square’s dining spots are just around the corner. A small dock platform outside the main room’s windows allows waterside seating where canal traffic passes before you. The manager was quick to respond and shared excellent guidance on arrival. Currently, the adjacent street is undergoing renovation.

Excellent location allowing us to explore every corner of Amsterdam. The children adored the experience and the direct canal position. The rental team responded quickly to all inquiries regarding city access. A delightful stay!

We were unwilling to leave the houseboat. It surpasses any hotel stay I’ve experienced in Amsterdam. Cleanliness and functionality were excellent throughout, the washroom is spacious and well-designed, and the kitchenette contains all essentials. The sleeping arrangements were both comfortable. Definitely would book for a future visit.

We arrived to find this accommodation exceeded our hopes and then some! Unfortunately, the day we checked in, there was a major power loss affecting tens of thousands of homes in the area. It took until the next morning to restore service, but we got through it. The owner kept us well-informed throughout, which we really valued. Apart from that hiccup, our visit was outstanding. If vibrant surroundings appeal to you, you’ve found your place. The Rembrandtplein area pulses with constant energy. Yes, the boat opens directly onto the waterway, but that’s actually a bonus! Plenty of window coverings are available if you want privacy. We didn’t need them—we loved greeting the passing tourist boats from our window. The outdoor seating area offered wonderful people-watching. All furnishings are tasteful and in working order. We’d definitely return!
