This houseboat, ‘De Hoop,’ is moored in a small marina directly on the open water of the Nieuwe Meer in Amsterdam South — close to both the city center and the Amsterdamse Bos, with SUPing, tennis, and other water sports available nearby. It’s reachable by car with paid parking right next to the marina, an easy cycle from the center, and within walking distance of public transport; there are also good waterside restaurants close by, and the sauna at Spa Zuiver, with indoor and outdoor facilities, is just around the corner for a post-sightseeing unwind. Inside, the boat is fitted out like a proper small apartment: a cozy living room with a comfortable sofa and dining area, a bathroom with shower and toilet, and a compact open kitchen with a fridge, coffee maker, and all crockery, cutlery, and pans provided. It sleeps four across two bedrooms — one with a double bed (two singles pushed together), the other with a bunk bed — and beds are made up before arrival. Outside there are two terraces, including a furnished roof terrace with a view over the marina.

We enjoyed three days on this charmingly converted boat in Amsterdam and were delighted. Being on the water creates something truly magical and transformed our trip into something unforgettable. The boat was inviting, immaculate, and comprehensively equipped. Awakening to waterside views and savoring the peaceful charm of the canals in the evening was absolutely delightful. The spot offered the ideal combination of easy Amsterdam exploration and restorative peace. We wish to specially commend the affable hosts, who show genuine consideration for their guests’ comfort. We had a remarkable experience and enthusiastically recommend this stay. Much appreciation for those beautiful days – we’ll certainly be returning!

Reaching downtown Amsterdam via public transit was perfect – streetcars and buses are available. Bus travel involves some walking or transfers based on your starting point. The proximity to the airport and motorway didn’t particularly concern me. Morning had more plane activity, though noise was only perceptible outdoors; evenings and nights were silent. The waterfront itself was quite pleasant, and sipping a post-tour beer on the boat’s rooftop in the evening was wonderfully calming. This houseboat is ideal for a brief Amsterdam getaway.

It was delightful staying aboard a houseboat furnished as a modest vacation residence. Public transport access was conveniently located. A perfect base for exploring such an impressive city.
